Kala Amb marks the battlefield where the Marathas fought Ahmad Shah Abdali in the Third Battle of Panipat on 14 January 1761. It is named after a black mango tree under which Maratha commander Sadashivrao Bhau is said to have directed his forces. The site now has a memorial pillar, a museum and a landscaped garden developed from 1992.
