Safidon, historically called Sarp Daman, is associated with the legend of King Janamejaya's snake sacrifice (sarpa-yajna) performed to avenge his father Parikshit. The Nagakshetra (Nag) temple and adjoining tirthas here are among the oldest religious sites in the district and draw pilgrims especially on Nag Panchami.
