Taraori (ancient Tarain) is a small town off NH-44 about 14 km north of Karnal, best known for the two Battles of Tarain (1191 and 1192) between Prithviraj Chauhan and Muhammad of Ghor that reshaped North Indian history. The town also has an old Devikoop shrine. It is a landmark of medieval military history rather than a single built monument.
